Diamond
Coulter of West Ashley Youth Sports Track & Field team
Qualifes for Hershey National Meet
Congratulations to Diamond Coulter, 13, of the
West Ashley Youth Sports track and field team. Diamond won
the standing long jump at the Hershey Track and Field South
Carolina State Meet in early June, and her scores qualified
her to participate in the upcoming Hershey Track and Field
North American Final in Hershey, PA on August 5-7.
This is a tremendous
honor, as Coulter is the first representative from the West
Ashley Youth Sports track and field program to ever make
it to the Hershey finals. She is one of five participants
from South Carolina who qualified for the North American
meet this year.
WAYS track and
field coach Robbie Wall is justifiably proud of Coulter:
"Diamond really demonstrates commitment and hard work,"
Wall said. "When you've got your mind dedicated to
achieve a goal, it pays off."
The North American
Final takes place in Hershey, PA every summer. From April
through July, boys and girls ages nine through 14 compete
in local, district, state and provincial meets. At least
five participants from each state, 10 Canadian provinces
and three territories are selected. The athletes get to
spend four days in Hersey visiting sites, meeting peers
and famous track and field athletes, then competing in the
nationally recognized event.
