CAMP COUNSELORS
ST. ANDREW’S PARKS AND PLAYGROUND

Get paid to play!!!

Qualifications and Duties: Work with children at recreation day camps the summer of 2010! Camps include Tennis, Fishing, Challenge, Camping, Cheerleading, Afternoon, Half & Half, and a Traditional Day Camp at two separate facilities. We’re looking for people who are creative, friendly, responsible, and love working with children. Valid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid certification required. Must be available to start May 24, 2010. Previous working experience with children is preferred. For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Daytime, Monday – Friday; both full and part time positions available.
Salary: Salary range $7.75- $8.75 per hour. Free summer fitness center membership, staff discounts. St. Andrew’s Parks & Playground offers a fun and relaxed working environment!

 

SCOREKEEPER
ST. ANDREW’S PARKS & PLAYGROUND

“Get paid to have a front row seat for all the games!”

Qualifications and Duties: We are looking for part time scorekeepers to keep/record times and scores for youth sports games. You’ll be right in the thick of all the action…announcing the next player stepping up to the plate, keeping track of all the outstanding plays and some that are just, well…amazing! For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Part time. Generally 25 hours per week during each season, evening and weekend hours.
Salary: $7.25 per hour, free seasonal family fitness club membership, credit union membership, employee discounts, and a friendly working environment.

SUMMER CAMP DIRECTOR
ST. ANDREW’S PARKS & PLAYGROUND

Great way to get management experience in the parks & recreation field!

Duties and Qualifications: St. Andrew’s Parks & Playground in Charleston, SC, is looking for a 2010 Summer Camp Director to handle the day-to-day organization of our popular youth day camps! Parks & recreation or related major, experience in a summer camp setting, and excellent organizational skills desired. CPR and First Aid certification required. Must also have a current driver’s license. Must be available May 17, 2010 through August 13, 2010. For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Camp hours 7:30am to 6:00pm, Director will work 40 hours per week, specific hours will vary daily. Must be flexible.
Salary: Salary range of $10 to $12 per hour. DOQ
Benefits: All positions come with a free, seasonal fitness club memberships and staff discounts.

CONCESSIONS STAFF

Qualifications and Duties: We’re looking for very hospitable people to assist our guests and teams with their food cravings during our upcoming sports season. Serve and stock food, work a cash register, set up and take down before /after games. Dependability, trustworthiness, basic math skills, some food handling experience, and the ability to count back change are required. Training provided. For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Part time, weekday evenings and Saturday hours available.
Salary: $7.25 per hour,

KIDZ FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Duties and Qualifications: Play games and teach group exercise classes with children ages 3 to 12 in our family-friendly fitness club. Focus is on having fun, fun, fun while creating good exercise habits and the importance of being in good physical condition. The ideal candidate will be very dependable, CPR and First Aid certified, know how to have fun, and have experience working with children. Some experience with health/fitness is helpful. For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Part time, Tuesday and Wednesday 4pm - 6:30pm

Duties and Qualifications: Duties include supervising the fitness area, helping club members with fitness programs, and maintaining fitness equipment. The ideal candidate will be very dependable, CPR and First Aid certified, seeking or have a degree in physical education or a related field, have six months experience in health/fitness, and… a most fabulous personality! For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Part time shifts available: Tuesday and Thursday 8am – 1pm; Tuesday evenings 5 -10pm
Salary: $8.00 per hour plus a free fitness club membership, credit union membership, employee discounts, and a friendly working environment.

SUMMER SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR

Responsibilities and Qualifications: Teach all ages in our popular learn-to-swim classes in one of the state’s largest indoor pools. Red Cross WSI, CPR and First Aid certifications required, AED desired. Must have excellent customer service skills, previous teaching experience and be dependable. For the safety of our customers and staff, all prospective employees must pass a criminal background check.
Hours: Part time, Monday through Thursday 4 – 7pm; some Saturdays 9:00am -1:30pm
Salary and Benefits: $7.50 per 30-minute class plus a free fitness club membership, staff discounts, retirement plans, credit union membership, and a friendly working environment.

INTERNSHIPS
ST. ANDREW’S PARKS & PLAYGROUND

St. Andrew's Parks and Playground has Internship opportunities available in the following disciplines:

Athletics, Fitness Center, Community Recreation, Marketing, and Park Maintenance.

Thank you for your interest in an internship with the St. Andrew's Parish Parks & Playground Commission. We offer an educational work experience that is beneficial to students working in a park and recreation setting. This setting provides internship opportunities in Athletics, Health Club Management, Community Recreation, Marketing, and Park Maintenance. Internships are offered for a twelve-week period, traditionally in the summer months. Applicants should be at least a junior, working towards an applicable degree and be recommended by their college or university.

Overview & Qualifications

Internship Goals
To assist the student in gaining experience and knowledge of leadership in program areas by involving the students in as many of these areas as possible.
To assist the student in gaining experience working in their area of expertise while in a park and recreation setting.
To assist the student in developing an understanding of human relations and to develop skills to work with others.

Intern Information
Interns are directly supervised by SAPPPC staff and will receive professional experience in their field. Interns will receive exposure to aspects outside of their area of expertise through staff meetings, commission meetings, group activities with other interns, and experiencing day-to-day park and recreation operations.
Schedules are determined by supervisors and may vary to include weekends and nights based on needs. The primary mission of an intern is to assist SAPPPC staff in upholding and striving to emulate the agency’s mission to provide excellence in recreation and wellness.

Special Projects
Based on the needs of the agency and requirements of the student’s school, interns may be asked to complete a special project. If the project is issued through SAPPPC, the candidate will work directly with their supervisor. If the project is required by the school, the student will work closely with the school representative and SAPPPC direct supervisor.

Priority Deadline
We will begin the review phase of the application process by March 26, 2010. All applications received after this date will still be considered as long as a position remains open.


Length of Internship
12 weeks: May 17-August 6, 2010
(specific dates can be modified if necessary)


Education
Interns should be at least a junior, enrolled in an applicable degree and working towards a degree.


Compensation
If permitted by your college or university, interns will receive a stipend of $320 per week. Interns will receive a free single membership at St. Andrew's Family Fitness Plus (SAFFP) www.standrewsfitness.com

Dress
SAPPPC has an agency dress code determined by what area you will be working. Your direct supervisor or agency intern coordinator will provide more detailed information upon agreement of internship.

Housing
SAPPPC provides no housing for interns; however, SAPPPC staff will assist in providing information on possible housing opportunities within the area.

Transportation
Each intern is required to provide their own reliable transportation.

Meals
Interns are responsible for providing their own meals.
Interns receive a 50% discounts on food items purchased at SAPPPC food concessions.
Interns may purchase merchandise at the a SAPPPC and SAFFP pro shops at cost plus applicable sales tax.


Application Procedure

Interested students should first contact the Director of Interns at their own college or university and follow the normal procedures of their school.
With permission of their school, candidates should send a cover letter explaining their interests, experiences, talents, and other information which qualifies them for an intern position. This letter should clearly express an interest in the internship.
Candidates should also complete the SAPPPC INTERNSHIP APPLICATION 2.22.10.pdf and include a resume with two personal references and phone numbers. After the above is completed, telephone interviews with prospective interns may be scheduled.
If you are selected, we will contact you to confirm dates of your internship and assign you to a SAPPPC supervisor.
